JSA and broken foot

Morning everyone, so 3 weeks ago i fell over and hurt my foot thought it was just badly bruised, it wasn't getting better so last Thursday i went to the hospital and its broke 😑 anyways I'm currently on JSA been on it nearly a year, I signed on nearly 2 weeks ago and explained to my advisor what i had done but said i thought it was just bruised well obviously it's not and its broke, what do i do? I'm due to sign on again this Thursday, I'm waiting for an app at the fracture clinic to find out whats gonna happen with my foot, can i still claim JSA? I really don't want or need the hassle of switching over and i do actually want a job but I've already been turned down a job because of my foot (went for an interview friday did explain before attending but was told to come anyway but was turned down when they saw my boot) who do i ring and what do i do? Please help Thank you x

  • What sort of work do you do? Many jobs could easily accommodate a broken foot so if you can focus on applying for them that might work?
  • I've been looking for work in schools, I'm a teaching assistant, yeah i think i do need to look further afield thank you x

Go in and sign on as normal. The period you can sign on for JSA when ill has been increased but if you are limited in what you can do I suspect you will need to get a medical certificate. The JC advisor will be able to advise when you see them.
  • Hm, I wouldn't want to be in a classroom with a broken foot but I guess it would be possible! However given the time of year too you're probably best looking at other jobs. Best of luck :)
  • Thank you I'm only limited in the fact i can't walk very fast and have a limp 😂 oh and I'm wearing a boot lol ill wait and go in on Thursday thank you x
  • Thank you for your help x
