Scrip dividends and tax...

In the tax year 2017/18 i received some dividends as scrips.

Do i have to include these on my tax return i.e are they treated exactly the same as if i had received the cash dividend instead?

I only ask as in one of the on line tax calcs, it asks if i received any divis as scrips ??

Thanks all
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

  • Not sure if this covers it but the 2017:18 tax return notes (page TR6) includes the following,

Box 5 Other dividends – the amounts received
This includes dividend distributions from authorised unit trusts, open-ended investment companies, and investment trusts. Put the amount on your dividend voucher in box 5.
Include in box 5 any dividend from accumulation units or shares that are automatically reinvested.
    Don’t include any ‘equalisation’ amounts.

a scrip dividend is simply cash you chose to take in a different form, so yes of course you have to declare it on a tax return, it is part of your total taxable income (in the dividends section)

  • Yes.

If the value of the shares received for giving up your right to a dividend exceeds the dividend foregone by 15% of the market value of the shares received, you have to use the market value of the shares received as dividend income, rather than the dividend foregone.

These are called 'enhanced script dividends'.
