French foreign minister: We no longer want to pay for Poland and Hungary

Happy to take the UK money's though......... A reflection of Macron's view as well. Given his liar's comment yesterday.
France does not want to finance a populist Europe, the country’s foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has indicated, just as the fight over the EU’s new long-term budget begins in earnest. EURACTIV Poland’s media partner Gazeta Wyborcza reports.

These strong words were said in Paris on Wednesday (29 August) during the annual conference of French ambassadors, a meeting at which the French head of diplomacy officially indicates the most important directions of the country’s foreign policy.

71-year-old Le Drian, who after the victory of French President Emmanuel Macron took the helm of French diplomacy, said that France and Germany intend to work out a common position on migration before the EU summit in Salzburg planned for 20 September.

“We cannot leave this topic to populists, delusion traders,” he said, referring to the situation in Italy, where the government of the populist Five Star Movement and the fascist League gave the EU countries time by the end of next week to reach agreement on accepting refugees arriving in Italy.

Le Drian hits hard

But the most important words have been addressed to countries that use EU funds profusely but do not comply with EU rules.

“Each member state has the right to choose such leaders as they wish. But our vision of the Union as a basic circle of alliances and values does not fit with governments that do not respect fundamental principles and do not feel bound in any way by community solidarity,” the French minister said.

He added that these countries basically have “a utilitarian approach to the Union and choose only what is in their interest, and above all, when it comes to transfers of money.”

“We are not ready to continue paying for this Europe, this must be said clearly,” he emphasised.

This is a clear signal about the French line in the negotiations on the EU budget for 2020-27. The Commission, presenting its proposals for the division of money at the end of May, cut the amount Poland would receive from the cohesion funds by 23%. The cuts would also concern funds for subsidies for farmers and rural development.

The Commission’s proposals, however, are a starting point for further negotiations, and the cuts in funds for Poland will probably be even bigger. Especially now, when Paris announces that it wants to turn off the money tap for “countries that do not respect the fundamental principles”.

He's only saying he wants the countries to play by the EU rules, not that he wants to stop giving money on principle.

I suspect you were so excited about it that you misread it and thought it had some relevance to our "cutting off our nose to spite our face" brexit.

Google is full of racists and xenophobes that are also excited about this news. Not only are they wrong, but they've identified themselves.

Ah, yes, the planned European empire run by unelected bureaucrats enforcing its 'conditions' on independent countries. Lovely, and predictable. It's just the start.

And MSE is full of name calling arrogant, insulting posters who think that everyone else is wrong if they do not agree with them.

In which case that's really not a very wise suggestion from a country which has persistently broken EU rules, is it?
From 2002 (French head league for EU rule breaking: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/1390081/French-head-league-for-EU-rule-breaking.html)_ to an EU rule-busting budget deficit of well over 3% every year (to which Juncker says "Well, they are France" as they get let off yet again !

Here in the UK of course there only needs to be a hint of a suspicion and the EU try to demand billions as in their farcical Chinese imports saga which fortunately May is roundly rebuking.

Still you wonder why Britain voted to leave?

Once UK leaves EU, over time EU will disintegrate. At least EU won't survive in its current form, without some major reformation.

The 4 freedoms are way past its sell by date. Freedom of Movement is the cause behind Brexit.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

    Correct.
But you can't say that here ............ at least, not without being accused of seeing the immediate collapse of the EU and of being a xenophobic uneducated racist extremist, from past posts in Brexit threads.

France does not take the UK's money: as a prosperous democracy France is also a net contributor, like the UK.

And I think that the French would far prefer to pay, and see the more primitive European countries playing by the rules.

The scandal over Chinese imports is unfortunately not "farcical" but a very real failure.

On a related note, in my work on Food Safety I felt humiliated when I discovered that even Spain is far more serious about enforcing the regulations than we are.

i did think it would disintegrate, i dont think it will now as i think Brexit is probably a kick off to a big reformation that will probably take into account some of the reasons why we left in the first place
