Former Debt Collector

So this is more of a survey than a question.

I used to work for a well known organisation that specialised in collecting debt and issuing County Court claims for money.

I no longer work for this company and haven't done for quite some time now, but I have extensive knowledge of how they work. From how they review financial statements, what they look out for on financial statements and what is considered excessive. How they decide on the rate of payments for judgements and how enforcing judgements are handled.

I've thought long and hard about whether people would appreciate that knowledge to be passed on. Would some walkthroughs and cheat sheets be helpful to people, or is this something that people already know.

I used to have a really extreme view of people in debt, now I'm out of the game and I've got some perspective, I'd really like to make up for all people I could have been more helpful to when I was collecting.

Any input is welcome and would be appreciated.

I'm not in a position whereby this would be of use to me personally - but I wondered if, rather than provide 'cheat sheets' or advice on financial statements, you just stay a forum member and offer help to posters who are experiencing problems with DCAs. We have people who are CAB advisers and other who have gone through the Insolvency routes - all use their knowledge and experience to help others - you could do much the same.

It's a shame you held such an 'extreme view' of people suffering from debt when you were in 'the game' as you put it and I'm glad you now have a more balanced view of things. Nothing is ever black and white and there are so many who end up in debt because of circumstances beyond their control, being non-judgemental and understanding of this when giving advice is essential.

Your input will be welcome on these boards. You'll find you receive as well as give but that's all part of the 'wisdom of the crowd' theory that works so well here.

I’ll take a wild stab in the dark and take a guess at ether Lowell, Cabot or one of the tame solicitors they own ?

If you feel compelled to appease your past life, then by all means feel free to comment on individual posts where your input can really help, collectors have got away with it for a very long time, most have since been rained in by the FCA but leopards never tend to change their spots and I remain yet to be convinced that all this nicey touche feely behaviour I’ve heard about really cuts the mustard.

We welcome input from any helpful source, so I’ll go along with Fatbellys theory here.
