Shelving the account

Today, after sending medical proof into a DCA, they have sent me a letter back saying

"Please be advised that we have sent your letter to American Express as, due to your health situation, we are going to ask them if they would consider shelving the account."

What does this mean? I am very confused.

    It sounds like, after consideration of your medical health, they are considering writing your debt off, and have passed the information back to American Express for them to make a decision.
    I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    It means they are considering writing it off. Is your medical condition long term and does it affect your ability to work?
