Is there a maximum notice period a company can state?

How practical is it actually to negotiate a reduction in your notice period with a new employer before you've signed a contract?

Surely it would look bad that you're already thinking about what happens when you leave, before you've even started the job.

People negotiate salary, annual leave, bonuses etc. so why not.


(I mean people don't really in this country, but as a general rule)

I would certainly do this, I have negotiated more holidays, flexibility in Friday hours and would have no hesitation in trying to negotiate this notice period down either.

You have the job, you are deciding the contract.
