Pension review and as advice

Hi

Is there any particular place to go that can help me with my pension

Last time I asked someone I felt like they were trying to con me and I felt really uncomfortable

Any advice to get the best advice at a reasonable rate!

Thanks

  • Post some info here to get some general pointers. If it is a complicated situation, people will generally recommend seeing an Independent financial advisor to get proper advice ("independent" is very important).

    You might try

    https://adviserbook.co.uk/

Type in your postcode and then see menu on left - you tick confirmed independent and pensions/retirement planning and see what comes up.

    You can then ring round.

What sort of help do you need: general, specific problem, not sure you understand something...?

I have a pension that isn’t making any gains and I think someone needs to look at it and tell what to do re swapping etc

I haven’t really got a clue! It’s with standard life and I think it’s high risk. I can swap within standard life to another but haven’t a clue if it’s best!

I think I’ve had it for maybe 15 years

in which case, any local IFA firm should be able to do this for you. Its pretty much every day business for an IFA
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

I wasn’t sure if there was a place like citizens advise but for pensions that could offer some initial guidance

The last advisor I saw has let feeling disheartened by financial advisor

Sorry to the good ones reading this!

    No.

You shouldnt be seeing FAs. It needs to be an IFA. An FA is restricted in what they can do. Insurance agents are classed as FAs for example. You don't want that.

I don't believe there are any FAs contributing to this forum (or at least none that declare they are). Just IFAs and mortgage brokers.

  • How much roughly is the pension worth? If it is only a relatively small amount you may find IFAs aren't interested, or the fees are very high compared to the pot size.

I am a bit surprised by this as I have a standard life pension invested in medium/high risk funds and it has done well ( in my opinion anyway) Of course all pension funds dropped a lot in 2008/9 but have gone up a lot since . Over 15 years you should have seen some decent growth , unless it is invested in some more specialised area that has not done well.
You need to check exactly what the fund is and post again.
