JSA - when does it start?

Claim was made on 5/9/18 however the appointment issued was 2 weeks later (today) so I would like to know from what date the claim will be paid, should it be accepted? Surely it can't be from the interview date as this is 2 weeks from the date the claim was made through no fault of the claimant?

It would be from 5/9/18. It's possible to request that a JSA claim be backdated but isn't often accepted. For example if you finished work on the 31/8 but didn't claim until 5/9 you wouldn't be covered for the intervening period.

Do you mean Universal Credit, which replaced JSA ?

I think Universal Credit has pretty much replaced JSA.

It is for my partner and they told her it is from today, which I find odd. They also didn't take her P45 which seems even more odd.

Hopefully this is all correct but it feels wrong to me.

For jsa its from date of claim but i dont think you get paid for the first 3 days of a claim.

What I cannot understand is in the two appointments so far they haven't taken her P45. Surely they need this to ensure she doesn't get emergency taxed on the JSA payments, which I assume she now will? Her next appointment is next Wed so it can't take that long. What is the best course of action to get it to them? So far the job centre she has dealt with has pretty much got everything wrong and even calling today they managed to get her appointment mixed up. Is there somewhere the P45 can be sent to ensure it is processed properly?
  • She won't be taxed on JSA
