Weird phone call

While I was at work, wife got a call yesterday, and the day before, from 0141 218 0324. They said I had entered a competition (very likely) and wanted to check if my details were correct. Since I wasn't there, they gave the above number for me to call back. They confirmed I hadn't won a prize, they were just checking details.
Rarely, if ever, had a call to check details. When I called the number, the landline phone system said something along the lines of the call could not be completed and a calling from a mobile failed.
Looking up the number indicates the owner is Glasgow GB, which shows up against a host of other numbers also. Sounds very dodgy to me.
Anyone had a similar experience?

Calls to check details have been known from the timeshare mob and an energy company although I think the numbers have tracked back to them.0
