Should I wait to all my cards have been defaulted to go on a DMP or go on now as most cards have sent me final warning letters etc
I followed the advice provided here, waited until my cards/OD defaulted, then made the arrangement when DCAs/debt purchasers contacted me.

I have 4 cards. So wait until all default?
  • @gerrard88 Yes, that what I would do. Those warning letters are standard procedure all creditors follow.

  • Afternoon.
I have been doing my own DMP for a while, and quite a few debts have dropped off the list when I look on "Check my File' - still paying towards these, but no longer seem to appear as over the 6 year mark.

I have one debt of £4k owed to Very (Shop Direct Finance) which has always shown as "Arrangement to Pay".
Whilst I continue to clear others (that have dropped off) and send tokens to this, should I have defaulted this to get it sold on / marked as defaulted or what should I do?

The reason I ask, is I am trying to pay off what I owe (obviously) but also wish to move from England to Scotland in the next year. I know this arrangement to pay might hamper that, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yea arrangement to pay markers suck, best way is to stop paying it, they will, eventually default you, and sell the debt to a 3rd party, it may go to another collector first, but as long as it defaults that is the goal, then you can pay them off instead.

You should also at that point send a written complaint to Very about the account not being defaulted sooner, ask them to backdate it to the start of the AP markers.

  • @sourcrates Oh I wish I’d noticed sooner. Would it be worth contacting them to ask about back dating the default, or is just stopping payments and letting it be sold off/defaulted the only option. That would be another 6 years on the file - so annoyed!

Complaining to Very is never "very" productive, you can try, but they will argue it was an arrangement, rather than a route to default you, most people get fed up with not getting anywhere and end up just stopping payments and allowing nature to take its course, they are not the easiest financial group to deal with.

  • @sourcrates actually just realised I am paying NCO Shop Direct who collect on Very’s behalf. Would that mean I could ask for the default? I get a statement from Very though each month.

NCO are shop direct group, or whatever there new name is now, own in house debt collector, they can`t do anything about the default.

Already given you your options above.

I received a letter from a company called Equivo Limited. I searched their website and I’m a bit confused if they are DCA or a legal entity because these 2 fields are shown.

    Hope someone can provide clarification(s)
