Did anyone have issues with renewing car insurance during DMP? Or is it a customer retention kind of scenario? Sorry for all the qs just thinking of consequences - regardless it badly needs to happen 😬
Don’t worry about this. I had a DRO on my file and switched car insurance every year with no issues paying monthly. Doing a DMP myself now and don’t anticipate any issues as a dro is much worse on your credit file than a DMP or defaults
Thanks! That’s reassuring to hear. How are you finding your DMP journey?
It’s a big relief! Frustrated as well to be in a DMP when I had a dro years ago. Back then I was young and stupid and overcommitted on credit. I learned my lesson and worked so hard to build my credit file up again and due to personal circumstances I had to rely on credit to cover living expenses. But it is what it is- and I sleep better knowing it’s slowly being paid off!

That’s good!! Glad it is going well for you. I think once I get over the initial anxiety of not paying (feels so wrong) and I see how it all plays out I will feel a bit better. Understand your frustration, these things happen! In all honesty I don’t think I was ever told enough about money and I ended up over committing too. We will get it sorted 💪🏼 Did you go straight into DMP or did you hold off paying for a few months to gather up an emergency fund? Did you do the DMP yourself or through a charity? Thanks

Yeah I held off- well I actually had all the paperwork ready to go this time last year, as I just wanted something in place to relieve my stress. Then I realised no defaults would be worse as arrangement to pay markers stay on for 6 years after last payment is made- whereas defaults drop off after the 6 years regardless of whether the debt is paid or not.

With that in mind, I waited what felt like forever and squirrelled away an emergency fund and my DMP has just been set up this month! First payment in January now cos of timings. But it’s worth waiting and pushing for defaults / saving an emergency fund. Good luck 😉
  • Hi I had credit card with Egg around 2002 this was later sold to Barclays and then passed to PRA I entered a DMP around 2013 with step change. And following advice I sent a CCA request and believed the debt to be unenforceable so I went self managed on my dmp and no longer included this debt as was focusing on the enforceable ones. I have today received a letter stating they have passed this to their litigation and investigation team. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hi,
The question has to be what made you believe the debt was unenforcable ?
What responce did you get from PRA ?

  • I had the credit agreement checked on another forum and was advised it was unenforceable. I hadnt heard anything from PRA for 2 years and then got a letter before action.

Then your defence is going to be lack of enforceable credit agreement, and let the judge ultimately decide.

What did the other forum say, did they give you the reason it was considered UE?  From reading a few other threads recently, it seems that PRA have been sending a few 'potential' UE's on to their legals and some of those have actually been proven to be statue barred.  So it sounds to me that they've grabbed a bunch of account numbers, where they've had no payments for a few years, out of their system and are trying one last ditch attempt to collect.

If you have the counter-argument regarding its enforceability - now is the time to use it :)
  • Hi I am on a DMP with Stepchange since October 2019 and I have two Creation accounts which have not defaulted. One is showing in arrears with Creation and relates to a credit card the second is a loan which has passed to Lowell but shows in arrears not defaulted. Should I write to Creation and Lowell and ask to be defaulted?

Yes, you should be chasing these defaults and don't just ask... by that I mean you need to be quite firm and point out that by not doing so they are putting you at a disadvantage compared to others who may simply have stopped paying.   Mark your letter/s with COMPLAINT big and bold at the beginning and address it to the 'Head of....'whatever office is handling the accounts.  If you don't get any joy, then I would be removing them from the DMP and stop paying until they play ball.

Stepchange are brilliant in terms of what they do helping people to get on top of their debt problems, but if creditors or DCAs are being difficult, then you are often better off going self-managed so you can take control of the situation.
