  • Hi all, new here today, been reading numerous forums for a couple of months now, given recent events now looking to review a DMP I have had with StepChange for the last 10 years, current debt approx £29000with 9 creditors. April the 3rd I sent CCA requests to all DCAs, my debts have been sold on numerous times, (credit file is clear), all but one have failed to send what looks like a genuine CCA, although will be getting this checked, I'm now thinking this may be a good time to manage my own DMP as reading between the lies SC will be reluctant to stop payments to my Credtors. Here's my question, do I cancel my DMP and go it alone or tell SC to continue to pay only the single Creditor  who replied to my CCA request?
I presume eventually the other Creditors will contact me direct at which point I can refuse to make further payments to my debts until the CCA request is fulfilled.

It’s up to you, but bare in mind the modus operandi of stepchange is to get you paying your debts regardless of enforceability, so knowing that may help you make up your mind.

Hello All - I've had some good successes arranging some final settlements with Intrum and PRA Group via email
Is there an email address for HSBC or is it a post a letter job? I can't seem to find the right address anywhere - anybody know?

    Cheers,

To be honest - there would be little point in SC continuing to manage your DMP for just one lone creditor.  So you may as well just start putting a plan together to go self-managed.  The way to do this is to tell SC that's what you intend to do and at the same time take a note of your account (creditor/DCA) details (references, balances etc.).  You can then set up a payment arrangement arrangement direct with the one who has provided the requisite paperwork (assuming it proves to be correct).
  • Thank you for your post and comments, to be fair to SC they have been superb, especially in the early days, like others have said its a burden lifted when someone gives you guidance and relief from the pressure of large debts and creditors. With regards to the CCA requests what are the chances of these suddenly turning up? Its been more than 2 months since sending, would say 3 months be considered to be they're not going to find them or is 6 months more realistic?  I'm happy to suffer calls and letters if I go it alone,  I'm just trying to get an idea about the CCA timeline and what others have experienced in the same situation

Steve, its anyones guess to be honest with you, we cannot give you a definitive answer on that, creditors are supposed to keep records for 6 years, but not all of them do, average responce time is 6 months, if you don`t hear anything after that, its pretty safe to assume you never will, however some have been found after that time period, so ........(shrugs shoulders), its a case of wait and see i`m afraid.

Do it yourself, nothing happens automatically, you need to be proactive or they will still take the money from your account.
