Thanks for those replies, have opened account with clear score and got info on missed payments. Called companies and wheels now in motion to make complaints to two creditors. Thank you so much for your help folks.
  • Hi @chris1970s and welcome to the forum  :)

Yes.  I have previously settled my DMP debts.
I definitely recommend you submit the CCA requests for any eligible account.  It may result in you not needing to pay another penny.  If your creditors are unable to provide you with a 'true copy' of your original agreement, then you have the option to withhold further payment or to negotiate a ridiculously low settlement offer.
Wow thanks - just a follow on from that - if i write to them asking for the CCA (politely of course - and hopefully an email is ok) will that illicit any aggressive or negative reaction on their part, and is it likely to change anything with my current Payplan arrangement (unless and until i make an offer of course)?

You submitting a CCA request to your creditors is your right under legislation.  It will not change the way your creditors behave toward you.  You may need to cancel your PayPlan DMP if you were to start withholding payments.  Don't forget to send a £1 cheque or postal order for each CCA request.  :)

Oh thanks, i didn't know that. Could be troublesome as i haven't been out for 40+ days (diabetic) loll so the idea of going to the post office is anathema.
  • Hi all, hopefully everyone is well.  So I'm feeling a bit unsettled with everything at the moment.   I stopped paying my credit cards in January, so 3 months ago, nothing has been defaulted yet.  I was hoping to build up a nice slush fund but my car being written off and having to clear the gap in finance and being served an eviction notice as the landlord wants to sell and thinking about moving costs my slush fund is pants at the moment.  My oither half is self employed so has no income at the moment either. I'm going to carry on not paying and seeing what I can do.  Don't really know why I'm posting maybe  just some moral support

    Hi dibdabbers
There is a problem with your plan as unfortunately we are in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis.  The recording of defaults is now delayed by three months.  This will mean you having to stop making payments for 6-9 months.

The good news is that all eviction proceeding are also delayed by three months.

    Hi,
hopefully I am posting in the right place.
I have just signed up with a dmp with StepChange - I have nearly 50 000 worth of debt. Am at the moment still feeling so ashamed and embarrassed- I can’t believe I got myself into this situation. Worst of all my husband has no idea. He would be absolutely devastated.
So I have a few questions: The mortgage is in his name only and he has just signed a new fixed rate for 5 years. We do have a joint bank account that neither of us use - but that is our only joint connection. Should I try and close this account before signing the dmp and getting that ball rolling - in five years I wouldn’t want my debts to effect the mortgage renewal...
    any advice greatly appreciated.
Please be kind - I am already beating myself up enough.
    Thank you

Hi. I'm in a similar position. Stopped my payments in March for 6 months in order to build an EF and in an aim to get defaults. Bit concerned that creditors will not be willing to wait 9 months without payment and start getting heavy with the legal threats.

Picked my time to start a DMP 😬

I've also sent off my CCA requests and each time a creditor replies they also send me back the £1 postal order saying it isn't required anymore

    Hi emsyy,

There is no need to feel shame or embarrassment.  We have all walked the same path as you.  Your joint account may impact negatively on your husband.  So you may need to share.

We recommend that DMP newbies delay the start of their DMP by 3-6 months.  This gives you a little breathing space and an opportunity to build a respectable Emergency Fund (EF)

How did this debt come about?  Is it just that you have difficulty with budgeting?

In the first instance, I recommend you complete your Statement of Affairs (SOA).  Then you can start a brand spanking new DFW thread, with your SOA attached.

Try not to worry.  Things always work out.  There are always a variety of options.
