The ‘challenge’ for the OP is to provide proof that there was a formal legally binding arrangement in place and that money changed hands. It saddens me to say this but I fear that the OP may be the victim of an unscrupulous landlady who has given the OP’s name to the supplier as the billpayer; taken cash from her tenants, and then just kept it.

I need advice on what to do next. Should I contact them and explain? Should I just leave it? I don´t want this to get worse but I don´t want to pay that money as it´s wrong!

Have you got a tenancy aggreement as it was a house share ? Does it say inclusive of bills .Also are you saying it's your details on the letter and your thinking someone has set an account in your name ? I would not just pay this .what has the landlady said as she was taking money from you for bills ? Please always get a receipt on cash payments and what you are paying for in future .I would take your debt letter to your local citizens advice and explain to them as worrying yourself about this will not help .Obviously if the letter is not addresed to you personally the fact you have lived at the address is not the issue it's the details and who they are chasing for the debt .
