Is there any reason for this? (musclar neck pain)

  • Sometimes people just sleep awkwardly. Either tensing up during the night (a bad dream that you can't remember) or pulled a muscle as you turned.
It results in a nasty pain in the neck for several days.
If it doesn't go away after a week, check it out with the doc for peace of mind.
    Highly doubt its your matress.

Can I suggest that you post on the Debt Free Wannabe part of the forum for some advice on this aspect of things. They are very friendly, very knowledgeable and not at all judgemental and will probably be able to help you get rid of your debt quicker.

Thank you, I've not got a way out of it, aside from cutting back further, the issue is my income reduced and health costs are expensive. I have no way out other than to tread water which is a struggle and have taken advice. It's not just me in this situation, there are many of us, I've spoken to advisors. It's just the way things are now if you have health issues, they no longer get help in the way they used to and some times not at all. Having said all that, It would be a easier if money -or lack of it, were my only issue! Tip of an iceberg :/
  • Have you changed anything else recently? Diet, supplementation wise?

Potassium deficiency can cause muscle problems and changes in supplementation can cause hypokalemia -> refeeding syndrome.

I have had something similar a few times, less than once a year, not always after sleeping in the same bed. I class it as 'one of those things', rub whatever pain relief or muscle rub gel I have in and it goes away in a few days.

Thanks, I do have borderline or just slightly sub normal with nutrition in the first place so could be possible if maybe the weather affected things by placing more demands and so causing an inbalance but I'd expect this to have other symptoms (I'm used to cramp and numbness in my fingers and toes with potassium deficiency and I've not had that).
I've not changed my diet and I know this makes me weird but I literally eat the exact same thing day in day out. Have done for years. I normally get told my potassium is normally too high though as it's in coffee (including decaf) and I drink a few cups a day.
Maybe I'll request a blood test to be on the safe side! I could self medicate but I don't want to cause an excess in the same way as I don't want a deficiency! Thanks!

Wish it were easy enough to go with some muscle rub! After a few days of that and pain killers (ibupofen as I can't take paracetamol) whilst at the same time going from pain to unable to move my neck I had to admit defeat.

I did find it got a bit better after about an hours attempt at self-massage but it's not gone and is still enough of an issue to limit basic movement. It just baffled me how strong it was/is and how random it seemed to be- if I knew what it was it could at least help it from coming back each morning!
I'm planning on going to a GP appointment but have a few weeks to wait.

I woke up one morning and couldn't move without being n severe pain.

A visit to my GP resulted in a diagnosis of seized muscle in my buttock which affected my whole spine.
I have no idea why it happened. I did not do anything out of the ordinary in the days before hand.

A muscle relaxant was prescribed and physio.

Heat also loosened the muscle- a hot shower, as hot as i could as I could stand, was the GP's recommendation as I could not get out of a bath. A heat lotion also made a big difference. i used the Forever Living one as I found it more effective than the inflammatory ones.

Also a heat patch worn during the day. I found the Deep Heat ones the most effective.

it was a case or trying things to see what worked best.

Some people find cold is more effective for them or alternate hot/cold.

Well today I woke up with a pretty big head cold! I'd been having a busy few weeks and am now wondering if all along this wasn't about a posture/structure thing but some sort of an infection or cold working it's way out. I know this probably sounds a bit random, but the same morning I've woken up with the head cold (throat, cough, sneezing a lot, feeling lethargic), I also have a much reduced back pain! It's difficult to not make a connection.

I did save up a bit and went to a pay-by-the-minute massage person (recommended by a few friends in the past). I had enough for 15 mins and the lady worked on where she felt the pain originated (my neck) and though I still had some pain still, it did feel like she got to the right spot even if I still felt pain. Maybe she kick started something? It was only 15 mins though.

I do have issues with immunity/nutrition at the moment so it could be something sat and built up to be more extreme before my body reacted by fighting back. It's as if it doesn't react much to lower grade things and waits until they're much bigger before reacting with any fight.

I'm now going to go and lie down again!
