Hi,
I have now been unemployed just over 6 months, and I am struggling to get back into financial services which is my line.
I am applying for temporary jobs online as well as permanent jobs but not hearing from anyone, is anyone else having the same problem?
I am getting very frustrated by not working and bored out of my brains.
Many thanks James

How are you applying? Is it through a website like indeed? etc?0

You had a new job in July didn't you? Did that not work out?
I would ask someone you trust to review your CV as there may be an issue with it if nobody is replying. Good luck and I am sure you will find something soon0 -
HI,
I am applying through reed, totaljobs, Indeed etc.
I did have a job in July but that only last 4 weeks. My only other colleague who was my boss was a micro manager and was after me all day and would not allow me to get on with the work. I was relieved to be told I am leaving as was going to have to leave anyway as could not stand that permanently!

If you're applying for jobs and getting no responses at all, you're either not making enough of the minimum requirements for the job OR you dont have enough experience in said areas OR you're not expressing yourself well on your CV.0

Those are just some of the possible reasons. Over qualified, too old (although it's illegal to discriminate), are just two other potential reasons.
A CV really needs to be adapted for each job application so that the main areas of relevance to them are the areas you place most emphasis in the CV.0 -
Are you in London? Try applying directly through companies' websites. Try getting on Linkedin and connecting to recruiters.ally.0

Maybe time to try a new line of work completely? Even if just for a while. Or, consider part time but better hourly wage then full-time.
I know someone got lucky submitting their application 7:30 one morning, call half hour later about an interview - unrelated to 'anything they have ever done' field covering maternity leave.
Either that or try to get a financial services high turnover type job's that has one of those classroom courses before you even get to do the job. Perhaps whilst learning to become a minimum wage scripted call centre agent, who's in training.. perhaps you'll look more attractive and be less bored/get a new prospective/meet new people/be shown that what you thought you were cut out for isn't your thing after all. In a recent intake for my new job it isn't the "call centre veterans" doing well, it is the people who are totally fresh to the line of the work in all honesty, so perhaps it does pay to go off do something different and become more appreciative/attractive given the opportunity.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I am 44. I was thinking about changing career and going into accountancy and start study those exams. I have applied for temporary office jobs online but never hear anything back as I want some money coming in.0 -

I took it as read he was pitching at the right level of job and i dont put my age of DOB on my CV
But yes i take your point RE: there are many reasons.
Not getting any replies at all every time (most agencies have a low level employee / some sort of algorithm paper sifting) suggests something fundamental though.
As a contractor getting a call back from the agency is the first fundamental step. Not even getting those is worrying.0 -

Due to the number of applicants for temporary work most companies / agencies only get back to those who are going to have interviews. I think it's simply downright rude not even to respond to an applicant but that seems to be the way it is now.
If you aren't getting to that stage the likelihood is that your skill set, or at least the way it is expressed in the CV, isn't a close enough match to what they are seeking. There will be transferable skills between financial services work and more generalist office work and it's those which need to be highlighted. Having xyz qualification or experience specific to financial services isn't important, whereas in depth understanding of spreadsheets or a decent typing speed may be.0
