Ever growing debt, and the company not willing to help

Hi Guys,
Firstly, Love the site/forum it has given me the shove to sort my finances -- but this question is not about my finances, its my mums, now she is currently off of work due to ill health, and hasn't worked at the company long enough to get sick pay to cover outlay.
Whats happened is, she has used her card for this company, and gone £30+ pound overdrawn on this card. Now the company have not informed her of this, and have been adding £12 per month on to the payments owed.
The debt is now in excess of £600!
So reading the statements, where the companys say "If you have any trouble paying please get in touch" - My mum got in touch and has said, OK £600+ she will pay, but if they keep adding the £12 per month, she can't afford it, and therefore the debt will ever be increasing! But the company have turned around and said their is nothing they can do for her, and they cannot stop that charge.
Please bear in mind, that my Aunty had the same problem with this company, and they froze it for 6 months.
Does anyone know of a way that this company could be made to realise that she can't pay it while they are adding this charge, and while they are, she will never be able to pay them their £600?
I would like to write a letter of complaint, but if they are just going to throw it in the bin when it arrives at their end, its going to be pointless, So I'm stuck for ideas, If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks and best regards
