Optimum age for Equity Release?

Does anyone know the optimum age for an Equity Release plan on a property please?
They say in the sales blurb that it is possible to withdraw up to 50% of the value of your home, but at what age is this available?
Is it a case that the older you are then the greater amount you can withdraw?
I know there are online calculators available, but they all want you to sign up and receive their brochure, followed presumably by numerous sales calls, so I wanted to avoid using them.
If anyone could give me some general ideas and advice that would be appreciated :-)
