Copy payslip different from the original

  • Thank you spadoosh, and yes I would arrange a meeting if our payroll dept weren't based so far away!
I know I can only speculate right now, but that's good enough until I hear back from them. I just wanted some ideas as in my mind that's wrong.

I'm only confused because any changes and corrections normally happen in the following month, unless there's a bacs transfer involved, so how can they just amend my payslip to show I've been paid £200 more, when I haven't? That's what seems odd to me. Surely that'd mess up their records too, as it won't match the payment. Even the HR lady who does the payroll at my location has no idea (she's not in charge of my pay until next month).

I'll definitely be calling HMRC again later, but I don't believe they can do anything, since it's my employer doing all the calculations.
  • Thanks Chris, that's really helpful, although I did check and haven't received or been advised I'll be getting a transfer!

I won't give all the details out but my taxable pay YTD went from about £800 in first month, to £1900 in second, and to over £7k in the third (original)! Everything else stayed the same (apart from the tax for the month amount)

Even if they did make changes though, shouldn't they appear in the next month's payslip? I'm just confused how they can have a copy that's different to mine basically

Without the full details cannot say what is happening though what you describe regarding YTD could well be correct if a P45 (or P6) were applied to the third payslip. But as I say without full details no way of knowing.

All I would suggest is that you show your payroll dept. your bank statement which agrees with payslip 3 net pay and ask where the extra net pay shown by replacement payslip has gone.
