prescription from Boots.

my surgery has a service where you can nominate a chemist after requesting a prescription. I have just requested a prescription and decided to use this service so as to avoid a trip to the surgery to pick up the prescription and nominated my local branch of Boots. I see the request has now been granted but nowhere can I see what happens next. For example do I give it a couple of days before I go to Boots as they do not have my e-mail or phone numbers to contact me and I do not want to make a pointless journey into town. Any advice from those who use this service would be very welcome.

We have ours go to Lloyds pharmacy and it takes about 2 - 4 days, depending on how busy they are. If you give Boots a ring they might be able to tell you if it's ready, to save you making an unnecessary journey.0

our local Boots says it takes up to 48 hours to get an 'electronic prescription' even though the process is supposed to be almost instantaneous. Because of that, I always get a paper prescription in my hand before leaving the surgery, and then go to whatever chemist is nearest.0

It is not instantaneous because from the GP surgery they go to hub. It is up to the pharmacy how they download their prescriptions either maybe at regular times each day or as and when they remember.
I am aware of some pharmacies that only download their prescriptions at the end of each gp session for the surgeries that they cover. Some smaller ones only download daily.0 -
The 48 hours isn't just for the prescription to get from the doctor's to the pharmacy. It also has to be made up - physically picked from the shelf and cross-checked. And if they don't have what you need, it has to be ordered in.
Our doctor also says 48 hours, but unless you are getting something out of the ordinary it's normally ready to be picked up within 24.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
They haven't got the time to contact every patient to tell them their script is ready. The responsibility is yours. Give them a ring.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0
