Debt Managers LTD

Hi all,

I have a DMP, self managed and going really well. Out the blue I had a letter from debt managers ltd about an old next debt.

I do acknowledge the debt and it is not statute barred. I must of overlooked it when moving as it is from around 3 years ago.

I replied to Debt Managers LTD with a SOA and a payment offer so they would be included in my DMP.

However, they have wrote back saying before they can discuss accepting they need me to call them confirming my date of birth and all previous addresses.

Never heard of this. Is this standard practice? I don’t call any DCAs and none have my number. Should I reply to this in writing?

    Hi PJQueen,

You don't need to call them, and you should always be careful about volunteering personal information. I would suggest you write back to them and state you are not prepared to give this information. Based on this you can ask them for proof that the debt is even yours, especially if they have doubts about the personal details matching you.

If they refuse to send proof that the debt is yours, but continue to contact you for payment, then raise a complaint on the basis of harassment and escalate to the financial ombudsman.

  • Thanks Laura.

The idea of volunteering all my previous addresses did seem suspicious indeed.

I will write back declining to do so and also include a prove it template.
