I agree, I’ve already told all adults in the family I’m not buying for then this year and not to buy for me so I don’t feel guilty. I’ll be buying for daughter, new niece and 3 friends children and that’s it. It is liberating, already I feel the pressure in Christmas has gone.0

I agree with Beanie - clear the Aqua. You could then use that minimum payment towards Xmas before snowballing it to the next card.
Also have a look at some survey sites, you can earn cash or vouchers which can also be used towards gifts."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney0 -
Hi, just stopping by to send my support.
I second doing surveys - You can cash out in cash or vouchers from various sites and it all adds up. I've been collecting Amazon vouchers to go towards Christmas.
If you can, I'd squeeze as much of that £1700 to the Aqua card as possible. 51% interest is a kick in the teeth so once that's gone, you can put whatever your minimum payment was to Christmas/ an emergency fund.
Good luck with it all!Sealed Pot Challenge 075

I agree with doing surveys but as I get easily bored, there are only a few I do now. I definitely recommend Prolific Academic and then the other thing I do is the Royal Mail correctly delivered and unaddressed mail surveys. These you get Love2shop vouchers which I will use for Christmas and birthdays for the kids.0

It can feel a very lonely journey at times but I find just sharing my thoughts and engaging with overs on a similar path is a help in itself
I struggle with ways to generate extra income and just to have to take the small wins that come along , Just a thought but if you have defaults on your account , will a DMP cause that much of an affect on your file
I have paid all but one defaulted account back now but as the defaults go back to 2014 they will stay on my file0 -
Post up a statement of affairs and we can see if there are a few bits you can trim back on.
If your ex has your daughter 2 nights a week you could get a part time job cor those two evenings (tesco/sainsburys etc often advertise for part timers).Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0 -
Just wanted to post my support as I have just read your diary.
Another vote for the following:- Babysitting or official childminding
- Other part-time job for when your ex has your children
- Doing all the surveys under the sun
- Throw every available penny toward paying down the Aqua card
- posting up an SOA to see whether anything can be tweaked in your monthly budget.

I love my job0 -
Hi all,
Thanks for your comments and suggestions.
I think I might get looking for an evening job. I would happily do a couple of evenings a week. Will I get heavily taxed? Someone once told me having a second job ‘wouldn’t be worth it’. I have tried surveys. Swagbags or something? I spent 30 mins getting screened out of surveys after inputting my details. I will try some of the other suggestions though!
In terms of getting a DMP, I do not have any defaults on my credit file. All payments are up to date. Obviously apart from the CCJ. My credit score has been slowly improving the past few months. Apparently it will improve greatly once the CCJ has gone.
Hopefully I hear about my compensation in a week or two. I’m pinning my hopes on it to give me a much needed head start with attacking my debt.
Some days are easier than others. Today I told myself I had enough money for today and I would think about today only. I have my plan I just need to keep the faith that it will all come good.
I agree that just talking about it to those in a similar situation really helps and it does keep my motivated.0 -

Will I get heavily taxed? Someone once told me having a second job ‘wouldn’t be worth it’
Hey nowsthetime
I can help with the above.
Earning extra money is always worth it. I think that people simply don't understand tax and get scared by it.
If you start a new job, you will tick a box on your starter form that says you already have another job. Your other job's tax will not be affected. However, for the second job, you will not get any tax allowance (the part of your wages that is tax free, at the moment it is just under £12k annually). Your tax code for the new job will be BR and you will pay a flat amount of tax on ALL of the earnings for that job (20% or 40% depending if you're a lower or higher tax payer).
And that's it - simple as that. Flat rate tax on all of your earnings
Hope that helps0
