hello, a friend of mind has just returned to the UK after 5 years in the USA.
He is a UK citizen and plans to remain in the UK. He isnt on the electoral roll yet.
Will the fact he has been abroad for the last 5 years hinder his ability to get a mortgage?

Hi,
I know the high street lenders require you to be on the electoral roll. Not sure if there are people who give them otherwise so not much help to you on that. The fact he has been away should not be a problem as long as he has proof of a job and all the rest of that.0 -
I advised him that the electoral roll check might be a problem. he said that he is applying for his current address but I dont think it will show up for a while."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

Once you are registered on the electral roll you can pay for comfirmation to confirm this. Some lenders do have an Ex Expat policy and will ask for rather a lot of information to confirm your past but will lend if they are happy with the quality of info.0

There is an ongoing (rolling) electoral roll scheme that caters for the period between yearly registration. It may take a few weeks to get on the roll.
