Barclays mortgage - New build

Hi all,

You have all been really helpful so far.

Our mortgage application is getting submitted tomorrow by our broker, he all the information required.

Just wanted to know the general timescales now, we're first time buyers, going through barclays for a new build.

Were anxious that it could be a few weeks before we hear anything, and hope it is generally straight forward.

Any help is appreciated.

  • I went with nationwide ( so can’t help you in terms of the company) but we applied Monday evening( 3rd sept) had our valuation on Saturday... and got a text yesterday (sun 9th), to say they had our valuation and a mortgage offer..... so for us it was a week... we are FTB on a new build using help to buy :)

    It’s super quick!
  • It was over two weeks for me with Barclays.
  • That's insanely quick for you both, did they ask for addition documents or were you straight forward?

It was just the documents that were sent over as part of the application. The standard bank statements etc. I cant believe how easy it was for me to be honest.
  • If you are using Govt Help to Buy equity loan then it may take longer as one of the pre-requisite for releasing mortgage offer is getting HTB authority to proceed letter.
  • We used Barclays for our mortgage in Feb, and we were FTB using H2B for a new build. Overall for us, from putting the application in to the mortgage funds being released it was 3 weeks. We already had our ATP from H2B before our broker did the application, so it was pretty straightforward.

The only thing they asked extra from us was a copy of the ATP before they finalised it all.

    Good luck :)

Thank you all for the information.

We aren't doing the help to buy equity loan, but are doing the help to buy ISA.

Hopefully that will be the same for us. Its the wait thats the most stressful part.

    Will keep you all posted.

With Barclays, did you feel like your bank statements were scrutinised at all? (for example: Asking about every payment or withdrawal?)

    Thanks.

  • They only took 1 months bank statement from us, and because of the way my statements run with my bank (hsbc) the last full month I had was mid December-mid January. So it had all my Xmas shopping on, new year celebrations etc, and they didn't ask about anything.
  • Thanks Nicola, 1 month bank statement? Is that rare?

    Glad you got it sorted
