Veg box delivery

I tried a local veg box once (from a company called Grassroots). It was a tenner and promised enough veg for a week for two people.
When it arrived, everything was bruised, bashed or mushy. There were two courgettes, one of which was pretty much liquid, a handful of potatoes and a selection of other cheap veg.
I immediately called the company and they told me to return the box to their shop (it had been delivered). They refunded me the tenner and assured me that this wasn't indicative of the quality of future boxes.
I jumped on-line and priced up the same amount of veg in my local supermarket and it worked out as just over a fiver.
I don't think that company now does fresh veg boxes. I have heard of Morrisons and selected Lidl stores doing a mixed veg box for a few pounds. If those were available, I'd definitely buy them but I think the delivered boxes tend to be expensive for what they are.MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -
I have used them in the past, but I now live in a town with a twice weekly market, so use that instead. I prefer to choose what I buy, so the market suits. In the winter when the weather is bad and I'm time poor, I resort to the supermarket.
I find that most stuff will keep at least a week in the fridge. I meal plan to use up the stuff most likely to go bendy first.0 -
Yes, that's my reasoning for the 'Veg on the Edge' bag. It works better in the winter as I can casserole the lot, but it makes me eat things I'd never buy. Although I am drawing the line at salsify ...littlegreenparrot wrote: »I find it makes me eat more, and a greater variety of veg.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I’ve just signed up for Oddbox - local delivery of fruit and veg not accepted by the supermarkets0

I too tried a local delivery box for a few weeks and was always complaining and getting a partial refund for very poor quality. Nothing is as good as choosing your own, or better still growing your ownDownshifted

I live in a flat unfortunately, and quality in my local tesco isn't usually great...
Seems like there are mixed experiences. I think I'll give it a go and see what happens. A lot of it is locally grown which at least gives me hope for the quality - there's a limit to what can go wrong between field and box then!0
