You have received a reply in one of the other forums you placed this. I know it can be frustating when you don't get an immediate response it won't help to place the same request again and again. Unfortunately there aren't too many of us with degrees in international law. As someone has suggested on one of the other boards, you are asking us to condone your plan to commit theft. Simplistically, no, the credit company has no jurisdiction in Thailand, but if you ever plan to return you could find yourself in trouble.

Whilst I am only too happy to help people with debt problems sort themselves out, I will not advise on something I know nothing about, and I doubt anyone on this thread will either.

in short the answer to this is no. UK debt ( with one or two exceptions) stays in the Uk. There is no right of transfer etc in most other foriegn countries, witht he exception of Canada and Aus ( i think) U should be safe over there but that doesnt mean your creditors cant persue u and ask you to pay if they know where you are it just means they cant take any legal action against you in thailand if you choose not to pay.

I'm sure silvercharming was commenting more on the multiposting rather than attacking you personally. It's usually considered bad etiquette, but if you've never used a forum before, you wouldn't know that.

Is the money all on credit cards?
If you have had charges on these cards you can claim them back.

Do you still have an income?
(Would you be able to make reduced payments to the creditcard?)

I would suggest contacting payplan as this is a uk debt - they may know of somewhere else to refer you to (possibly FCL - but ask if this is a charge free service).
They will probably want to look at how you can pay this off, so may ask alot of questions.

Really not sure how to answer this.

£12k is alot of money so i doubt you'd be able to recoup that by claiming back any CC charges you've had or reclaiming on the PPI.

That thread i linked to seems to have been pulled for some reason.
Here's another that may be of interest - although i'm not advising to do anything mentioned in the thread.

Possibly worth asking the question (on the bankrupcy board) should you try to declare yourself bankrupt in the uk, or wait until the bank goes through the court proceedings to do that.

I'm not sure what the deal is regarding uk pensions - if that is what you have. Probably better to ask on an expat board where more people may have experience of this.

That said, the debt will be statute barred after 6 years (from the date you last wrote to them or made a payment towards the debt). After this time you are not liable for the debt.

I realise some people here may be suggesting that i am telling you to just do a runner or something, but if you have no income, no assets and no intention of returning to the uk, i can't see what else tha bank can do other than write it off (and possibly have you declared bankrup in the uk). I suggest you post on the bankrupcy board - i know people were giving you a hard time before for posting in so many places - but at least this time you have a specific query regarding bankrupcy, what it may mean for you and what you do as you are no longer in the country.

I hope you managed to keep some savings back though - i know it's an old article but possibly still relevant.
