Then there's the local UK service charge for 'Customs Clearance and Handling" (this can be a perfectly legitimate charge, but is often abused and sometimes, but rarely, included in the price of transport). This might be £12.50, it might be £25 it could be £3. Let's say £12.50 for the sake of choosing a number.

Apparently DHL charge £1.25 per entry (probably per tariff heading or 'line' so if you have electronics and ... err .... Levis in the same package it might be £2.50).

This is a very reasonable charge if they get the Customs Entry right; if they don't it may have cost you money - so ALWAYS check the invoice!
  • Egamar, thanks ever so much for your help last night. I have emailed them and requested they make the amendments and send me a new invoice to pay.

My friend got stung big time once ordering a leather jacket from America, on the customs slip stuck on the package was the price (about $150 i think), but they hadn't put the $ sign on so she charged duty/tax etc on £150.

also on the electrical issue, my boyfriend bought me a DS while we were in New York a few weeks ago (but sssh...I don't know!!!) and he just bought a travel adaptor that means the plug know fits over here and it changes the voltage or whatever too.
