Flights with Kids that was work/holiday - tax deductible?

Hi All,

I wasn't going to claim a long haul flight I made to Australia because I was visiting my family, but while I was there (I'm an author) I did meet with some book sellers and do a couple of press interviews.
Is it okay to claim it as an expense? I am published in UK and Australia.
Secondary question - I have young kids (under 5) and they came with me. Do I just remove their ticket cost?

It was a holiday trip where you also took the opportunity to do some business, but it was not a business trip so no you can’t claim any of it as a business expense.

I'd say it fails the "wholly and exclusively for business purposes" test as the purpose was to visit family (it just so happened that you ended up having a business meeting while you were there), so no.

No it was not wholly and exclusively for Business use


You could claim the cost of travel from your accommodation to meet booksellers and do interviews and any costs associated with this though
