Hi
I have already posted saying that I have had my light bulb moment. I have written to all companies involved explaining that I can no longer afford the payments to them. Up to now only 3 have replied to me to talk and I have re written to them all again.
Marks and Spencer have been brilliant. they accepted my proposal immediataly stating that they prefer to deal with things themselves than give it over to debt management companies. Big UP for them.
Tesco and Capital One, who are the other two to get in contact have sent out forms for me to fill in stating my SOA and details of other companies and what we have arranged.
My problem now is i want to go alone on this and not involve my husband if possible as he has his own debts to deal with and is keeping on top of them.
I am only on the incapacity and, can afford the offers of payment I have made them but, not sure how to go about it without involving other half. Can this be done? Other half will be paying all priority debts ( rent, gas, electric, water and so on ) from his wage so this doesn't need to be put down.
 Money Talks ...
but all mine ever says is Goodbye!

    Hi SB

When you say you 'don't want to involve' you OH do you mean 'want to keep it secret from him'? I'm not going to tell you what to do, but if it's the latter, please consider talking to him. You will find yourself under a lot of strain keeping it from him and he will almost certainly find out in the end, and be hurt and angry that he was lied to.

That aside, no, if you are not responsible for paying any of the priority debts. You can just say that they are being covered by a member of the family, or whatever. If you are dealing directly with creditors they usually just want proof that you're not earning thousands. Either way they will try and pressure you for more than you can afford. Have you thought about contacting CCCS or national debt line for advice?

Hope this helps. Remember, if you need support, we are here for you.

    Hi spenderblender

I am going to assume that you are the one that has run up these debts. Ie. That they are not joint debts between you and your OH.

Although, if you are married that may not make any difference to your creditors. In which case you will need to seek advice on how these debts will affect your husband. The CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) should be able to help you with that.

If you are not married, can you post your SOA (Schedule of Affairs). http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....html?t=107280
  • Hi. Yes, we are married and, yes he does know but, if they know they will want to know all of his debts and why we havent told them which in itself causes problems as we have only told the companies i owe money to which, are the main ones and the only ones who have massive interest rates which have caused me the problems.
I am not making much sense I know but all in all we are coping paying the smaller debts in his name but are struggling with mine like virgin who want 60.00 per month in interest even before I pay any money off the actual bill.

  • Hi there,

Mark here. Havn't much to add except keep smiling and trust the lovely people on here who know what they're talking about.

As to telling your debtors about your OH, whenever H tries to talk to utilities etc they will only talk to the person who's name is on the bills, i.e. me. So if everything is in your name I don't see why your hubby should need to be involved unless you want him to be. They can't have it all ways.

Hope you get sorted out soon.

    Take care. xxx
Nearly there! Been struggling for 7 years but the results are showing. :j

    Hi spenderblender

As you are married can you post an SOA that includes all income, debts and expenditure that you both have.

I am sure we can think of ways to reduce what you are paying put each month.
