Laptop....

I'm planning on buying a laptop - no real hurry although going back to uni in January 08 so would be useful to have it for this. :rolleyes:

Had a quick scout through threads the other night and the main question is;

Do I (a) buy it now - online or in-store? (b) wait for competitive Christmas price wars or (c) wait for the January sales (d) other???

Any ideas anyone? :confused:

    Wait for January sales
    Last year (this time ish) OH wanted laptop and went to shop to buy it. We checked and the prices were similar to www. Bought lappy and some software paid over £1000. OH v.v. happy.

    9 months later same lappy on line from Dabs was £575. So I had one too as OH's was cat's pyjamas.

    I would hold out as long as you can. Narrow your choices to two or three models. Check the prices weekly. Save a bit more cash (if you can).

    Then pounce, probably in mid Jan.

    Keep a look out for end of line models where the discounts start ramping up. Jessops had some good offers last year. Mine was from Dabs.

    The problem is the model will always be cheaper a few months down the line as the next best thing comes out.

    Work out what you want and go buy that spec for the best price you can find it. if you buy the same thing 9 months down the line it will be cheaper because there have been 20 other laptops released that superseded that one.

    or

    Set your budget and buy the best thing you can at the time you buy, you may get something better in the sales but it is unlikely the sales in the UK are generally stores trying to get shut of old stock.
