Claiming on PPI with Halifax Mortgage

Options
It has been suggested by family that I may be able to claim on PPI on my Halifax Mortgage. However, I have moved 3 times since 1995 and have had 3 separate mortgages with the Halifax. Each time, the mortgage was arranged for me by an Independent Financial Advisor/Mortgage Broker, who has since retired. I do not recall PPI ever been mentioned by him, so I am unaware whether I had PPI or not.
My question is whether I should make 3 separate applications for PPI refund to the Halifax or should I make only one claim for 3 separate addresses and accounts? I realise that there is a Resolver Tool on this website. Would I have to use this tool 3 separate times? Also, as I do not know whether I had PPI, should I put this as my reason for claiming?
I am very much a newbie to this, so would appreciate any advice!

It also means you cant be missold MPPI by Halifax.

You make none because you didn't have PPI through Halifax. This is probably why you are not aware of it because you didnt have it.

It would be hard to miss. You'd have seen a monthly DD hitting your bank account from an insurance company.

You can always ask your IFA to put your mind at rest.
  • Thank you both. Actually, on checking, only 2 were arranged through a broker. The other was organised directly with the Halifax. It would also seem that there was an insurance policy that went through each month with the mortgage. From what you have said, it would seem that I may be entitled to claim on one of the mortgages.
  • Do you mean claim, or complain that the insurance was in some way mis-sold?

Contact Halifax and ask if they have any record of you having PPI.

Two most common insurances arranged with mortgages are home insurance and life assurance (sometimes with critical illness cover). The third is MPPI.

So, could that insurance be life assurance rather than PPI?

Was it arranged by Halifax (which would only be on two the mortgages) or arranged by the IFA?

You can complain about whatever you like. Including the colour of the carpet in the branch. Entitlement is not an issue. Its whether you are complaining about the right thing or not. For example, if you complain to halifax about PPI when in reality it was a life assurance put in place with the IFA, then you are just wasting everyone's time. That would be like buying beans at Tesco and then complaining to ASDA about the bread you didnt buy in someone else's shop.

  • Thank you. I will make enquiries as to whether it was a PPI.

But did the Halifax sell it to you? Who is the payee? That will tell us if it is theirs or not.

  • Yes, the payee is the Halifax and they were the only organisation that I dealt with.

Ok. You must have done that one with the times you dealt with Halifax as the broker/IFA would not use Halifax products, apart from the mortgage.

So, that one you can safely refer to them. However, the Halifax plan could easily be life assurance. So, a call to them first to check would tell you this.
