Talktalk v BT Fibre

I'm seriously considering swapping my existing BT to Talktalk as BT seem to charge a lot for speeds they don't deliver on fibre BB.
Has anyone got experience of swapping across locally? There's a million reviews on broadband all of which seem to say both companies are crap hence I'd like a local view. Are they as bad as each other - in which case the cheapest will suffice or are BT better?
I can't get Virgin where I am so it's really only the above 2 in play.

Going from the Which rankings I wouldn't go with either of those... TT is bottom of the list, BT only a little better.
I use Zen fibre, but it's not cheap (but then I'm not paying...). But Plusnet and Utility Warehouse are well up there too.
For fibre Which list Vodafone as the best value deal at the moment.0 -

I gather its their customer service which is rated poor, some of my friends who have been with them in the past would not touch them again with a bargepole.0 -
Is Plusnet an option? - been with them for 6 years with very little problem. None are pefrect and you'll find bad reviews for all of the big providers
Prior I was with TalkTalk - it's possible they have improved since then, but at the time their customer service was truly awful, the worst I've seen in any industry.0 -
I've been with Talktalk for several years now and have their faster fibre. Speeds are excellent, no caps that I can perceive and I'm happy with the service. The only negative I've had are the few times over the years where I've had to interact with customer service but, to be honest, they are no worse than BT (although neither are glowing examples of how to give customer service). Personally I work on the basis that they're cheaper than BT and no worse when the proverbial hits the fan....Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

Having been a customer of both over the years, I've generally found both to be much the same in terms of speed and reliability. Your connection is still using the same wires back to the same street cabinet which then goes back to the same exchange. It's usually this cabling which determines the speed you will get.
If you do switch to TalkTalk then sign up to the community. I've found this to be a good way to get problems resolved as it is manned by UK based TalkTalk reps and saves you having to go through foreign call centres

Bit of an update..
I complained to Openreach last sunday as to why despite having their network I seemed unable to access other providers. As if by magic' they responded on wednesday and when I checked again on thursday I now seem to be able to choose any provider!Timmay!0
