There's a book called "The Savvy Shoppers Cookbook" which has loads of ideas for cheap, relatively healthy meals. They've also got a website.
If you want to be really Savvy, there's plenty of 2nd hand copies for sale on a well known internet auction site.....

Hi there,
Bless you, it's a minefield isn't it?! Your menus look ok to me 👍
Ideas for small changes might be;
Check sugar content per 100g on food labels - traffic light system on many packs.
I'd knock the biscuits before bed on the head and try a small banana if hungry, & decaf tea.
Maybe make homemade flapjack (full of seeds & goodness) and swap that in for the daily 4pm energy slump!
Revisit portion controls, National good plate guide says, I think, 1 quarter plate for protein, 1 quarter plate carbs, half plate vegs/ lentils/beans, as a guide.
Swap your white pasta/bread for wholemeal, sandwiches for pitta or wraps. (Salad gets Boring really fast!)
Frozen veg are epic and retain loads of their goodness.
It's not all about the food. Adding in a bit of extra activity can encourage weight loss. A bike ride with the kids or a family walk in the outdoors, joining a 5 a side footy/sports group - it's good that everyone has hobbies outside of work.
Check out web sites for local sports or interest groups.
Also look at BBC eat well for less website for value healthy meals and snack ideas.
& it's not all about weight, body fat percentages and cholesterol levels, and how you all feel are more important.
Good luck, you're doing fine, and it's everything in moderation 😇0 -
Cut back on carbs (white bread, pasta, pastry, biscuits, crisps, potatoes etc). Try whole grain bread, or toast frozen bread. Roast squash, sweet potatoes and celeriac instead of potatoes. Or cook potatoes and then eat them cold. To fill up have beans, chickpeas and lentils and full fat products.0

What about buying or making soup?0
