CO Operative Bank. Need to think about what they say?

I am absolutely shoced by the attitude of Co Op bank.

For the last two years I have been paying them the amount I work our Pro Rata. But they still havent stopped intrest and to be honest , I am on the verge of making them take me to court.

ALl other creditors have been very good and as I have rebuilt my career , I have kept them informed and payments go up as my disposable income goes up.

Co Op though are in a world of their own

1) I have a company supplied vehicle and a train pass supplied by my company. This is because my job is on the rail network. At some point I will not have the company supplied vehicle as it will be on other duties (promotions , deliverys etc.......) so on these days I will use the train. I will however have to pay for fuel to get to the station on these days. Co op are fully aware of this but cant understand why I only put £30 of fuel in my car last month . But have told them that on occassions I may have to put more in. There answer. Get another job with no fares. Where? was my reply.

2) I am heavily involved in a football team. My expenses for this are low as its a non salaried position with perks such as free tickets , free away travel or subsidised away travel. Co Op cannot understand while three months of the year I will increase my paymenst to them pro rata as I have no expense to the club. They also say that if I dont get a salary , I shouldnt do the work. Well , mr Co Op , the club is strapped for cash and as a loyal supporter we are trying to rebuild it. So if I ask for cash , they will get another volunteer.

3) Apparantly my car insurance is too high. So I asked co op insurance for a quote and they were even higher. So are they saying that they are over priced.

4) The fact that my partner is undergoing major psychological rebuilding following a major attack on her , does not warrant me making around £5 of mobile calls to her a month. Maybe Mr Co Op , I should let her slip into a deep depression and maybe become suicidal. When you have been attacked and cant sleep at night. Cant turn a light out , lock windows when its 25`C outside and cant afford to pay your bills as you are virtually house bound then you may understand.

5) I drive a lot and the rest of the time i am at my office. What part of the request "DO NOT CALL OR TXT ME ON MY PERSONAL MOBILE" is difficult to understand. I do not take it to work and do not get home in time to call your helpful debt department as they finish the same time as me. I am quite happy to use the post or email. Eighteen calls in 3 days is Harrasment.

I am being honest with all creditors and all apart from Co OP have been good. One has even asked if I want a two month payment break with no intrest as I have been so forthcoming with them. (Blair oliver and scott).

Has anyone else had enough of Co - Op? I am at the point where I feel they want every aspect of my life. I am a free citizen of this country and am trying to put right what I did wrong.

  • Unfortunately, your's is not the first complaint I've read about the Co-op when it comes to owing them money - I think all financial institutions revert to a template when they've exhausted common sense & basic decency.

You can stop the phone calls by sending them any of the letters here & here - just tailor them to your own circumstances. Rather than argue with them about the individual issues at this point, I would deal with the phone calls first, as they're the thing that's most invasive.

Next I'd deal with the points you feel they're being unreasonable about. Sometimes different aspects of an account are dealt with by different departments, meaning what looks to you like them being unreasonable when you look at all the issues together looks to them like something perfectly acceptable to say because that person is just looking at one issue in isolation. I would type up a letter detailing all of the issues & the conversations/correspondence you've had with them on each one, with your current position on each one at the end (either at the end of each section, or at the end of the letter). Send it to the person who's dealing with your account and their manager, as well as Customer Services. They may totally ignore your letter, but you'll have put all the issues in one place, meaning they can't say they didn't know or weren't aware the other issues existed even if they weren't personally dealing with them. If they decide to take you to court at a later date, that letter would show that you'd informed them of your circumstances & had done your best given your existing commitments. If the judge saw that they'd ignored all/part of your letter, that would help your case. Good luck. :)
  • Hiya...

I'm having similar problems with the UnCooperative Bank!

Had a loan and credit card with them, wrote to them along with Egg, Capital One, Mint & Morgan Stanley. Coop were the only ones to be awkward. All other froze interest and put me on DMP with themselves.

Now my loan has been turned into an un-autorised overdraft, and my credit card is still accruing interest which is greater than the amount I am paying them.

I got loads of missed calls on my mobile from them last week, eventually got intouch and was told "we really need to put you on a repayment plan".......eeerrrrr YES, thats what I've been asking for since April!!!

Anyway, got the form through, filled it all in and sent off mortgage statement, proof of other debts, and wage slips (even though I am self employed so they dont reflect true income from company). Just waiting for the call next week to pick the bones out of it!

Such a joy to deal with NOT!

The coop should stick to selling fruit and veg! I even got a letter from them a month ago asking if I wanted a loan with them

Whenever I ring their "debt management" dept. they always say....we work with a broker called Freedom Finance (or whoever) would you like to speak with them to consolidate our debt? - No...I would rather take my chance with a Magistrate thanks!
