Old debt, but I want to pay

Hello,
My name is Rachel and I live in Australia. When I was 19yo I moved to the UK for a few years, while I was there I had a credit card and also 2 store cards. I am not sure how much was on them.
While I was away I got very, very sick and was in hospital for a while in the UK. I got well enough to be able to fly home as my illness was going to be a long term thing and I needed the support of my family. I am still dealing with with my heath issues from back then, but I am certainly in an ok financial position to pay it back
Anyway, I really want to pay my debt back but this was going back 11 years ago now, so I am not even sure they would have me on record. What does everyone suggest I do? Another thing I was thinking of was maybe making a largish donation to charity in the UK if it's been too long to pay my debt back now.
Thanks everyone,
Rachel.
P.S Do you get the show Earl over there? I feel like the main character Earl, he has this list of things he needs to make right in his life!

Hi Rachel - good question! I can't answer it, but I admire your willingness to 'put things right'. Yes, we do get the Earl show, so I see where you're coming from.
However, I wouldn't beat yourself up about those really old debts - they will have been written off by now, and there's a good chance the institutions you borrowed from have changed hands a few times in the interim.
The charity option is a good idea, maybe something to do with people in financial hardship?

The debt is long written off and even if you were still in the UK it wouldn't be on your credit file.
Sleep easy - but make the charity donation if it would ease your conscience. You can often do this online.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Debts over 6 yrs old without payment or contact are statute barred and unenforcable. They would have also dropped off your credit file over here by now so you would probably have trouble chasing them up. Personally the charity donation sounds like a more feasable option.
