Have 2 Job offers but How do you choose which one to accept?

Hi all,

I currently work for an investment bank which is going through a difficult period and will be doing cuts for over the next 18 months which may or may not impact me. I decided to apply as you can get better rates whilst in a role.

I have recently been offered two roles:

1) On a project which will run for a minimum of 2 years with likely extension and is a 25% increase in salary.
2) 15% pay increase for a permanent role for a small company.

Both are for smaller companies. My heart is saying to stay where I am as the job is comfortable, there is no pressure and is very flexible in terms of working from home although is less in terms of salary. But my head is saying to accept job 1) as it will mean learning new skills at the age of 30 and will be safe for at least the next 2 years with a better salary.

How would you determine which is the best to choose or would you take the risk of staying where you are? Should it simply just be about money?

I wonder if these 2 things are related?

Somehow I can't see an investment banker asking for help on a moneysaving forum. Especially when they gave in their notice 3 week ago: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5880475/can-i-start-a-new-job-whilst-using-annual-leave-on-my-4-weeks-notice

And have yet to decide how to invest £100k in cryptocurrency https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5879452/i-have-100k-best-possible-returns

Sidetrack but you don't have to be an investment banker to work for an investment bank.

    Job 1 and save,

Keep a good eye on the ongoing viability and network to be in a position to jump when needed.

Or use it as a way to set your new base 25% higher and look to move before the project finishes.

You have a degree of job security in the current one. You will have none in either of the 2 new jobs as employment can be terminated without any explanation in the first 2 years.

Toss a coin to see if you stay with your current job or go for a new one. If the latter, toss it again to decide which of the two new jobs you accept.

That's about on a par with the sort of help you can expect if you ask strangers to make decisions for you based on so little information - and in particular, with no knowledge of you.

Much better to discuss with people who know you, or (even better) learn to evaluate your own position and take an informed decision that way.

    Good luck!
