Wrong 'Valid From' Date
Hi all,
I just exchange my full Australia driving license to a UK one. But I notice that my valid from is wrong. I passed my Australia license in June 2014 which was stated on my license, but I realised my new UK driving license stated it is valid from '<22/6/18', which is very odd because I have no idea how they came up with that date. One of my mate also exchanged his foreign license but his valid from date was from the date he passed his driving test. I try to look around the net to see if anyone has the same issue but couldn't find any and how to fix it on the DVLA website. Any suggestion? I am worried that if a car insurance or hire company see my UK license, they will think I am a new driver. Help plsss

June 2014 is before 22/6/18, so it's correct.0

Was your mate an EU citizen exchanging an EU license by any chance?0

I know it is. But now the problem is that if any car insurances look at my license, they won't know that I passed 4 years ago. They might think I am a new driver and increase the my insurance, and I can't prove to them that I pass 4 years ago, because DVLA took my Australia licence.0 -

And you didn't keep a copy?
I suspect yours are the sort of circumstances where you will need to speak directly to the insurers you plump for to explain your driving history or better still use a proper insurance broker.0 -

I did keep a digital copy. But I am not sure if they will accept it. I will definitely call DVLA and the car insurance to ask about it.0 -

DVLA cannot verify your Aussie details, so they simply say "Before the UK issue date". It's down to insurers to decide whether to go with your "But I passed in Oz in..." story, backed up by the photocopy of your Aussie licence I'm sure you kept...0 -
If you are talking about the date at 4a on the front of the photo licence that is the date the card was issued . The date in 4b is 10 years later, when it needs to be renewed.0

I don't know how Aussie licences work, but IIRC they're state-based, rather than national. Do they show the issue date of the (frequently renewed) physical licence, rather than the test pass date?

Yeah it is state-based. I think they show the issue date as the day I passed my test. Hopefully, the car insurance will accept it. Thanks!0
