We used to have a waterbed. It was 6ft, mattress divided into 2 so each person could have their own level of wibbly wobbly ness

Did it give you the best night's sleep ever?

I would be dreaming I was swimming or on a cruise every night. I am like that

I'm sleeping on Amerisleep AS3. It's a memory foam mattress, it's soft, it's adapts to the body and it's really comfortable. It was pretty expensive, especially for me at that moment, but I needed new mattress so I decided to pay for a good one.

I didn't regret it. I paid a lot for it, but it's so comfortable that changed my sleeping quality for 100%.

I'd possibly imagine I was on a boat and end up seasick!

Actually OH and the cat preferred it to me. I have got a high end foam mattress now which I love. It is like the hospital beds which you can raise the feet and head ends.

Come to think of it, the bed I had in hospital after my knee op was really comfortable :D

Best nights sleep I had was on a Tempur mattress. Though this could also be because it was not long after a few traumatic events...I went to stay with relatives, it was nice to be with people even in such horrible times, the bed was so comfortable and if I had the money I'd get one. But possibly my first full nights sleep in months was influenced by the situation rather than just the bed! I can't help wondering how many who want the bed they slept on during their holiday fall for the same rose tinted spectical outlook!

Is it possible to get a great mattress for under £300 for a king size?

If not what kind of budget do I need?

I've always found hospital beds comfortable, it's just the environment they're in I hate.

Ugh! Don't get me wrong I am very very grateful for all the treatment I've had and the opportunity to recover in a place where I could be easily monitored, but I'm yet to find one comfy!

I've been in a bed A&E a few times over the years for various issues as well as being admitted for a few weeks and each time the mattresses were quite thin, very firm and in a blue plastic cover which was then covered in a flat sheet but left me with back and neck ache.

I was though to be honest, just a bit more concerned at other health issues going on for me at the time but it doesn't help your recovery when you can't fall asleep because you keep sliding off the bed!

I guess one school of thought is if a mattress you love can last 5 years x 365. 50p a day/night = £912.50 is good value compared to one , cheap but you hate.
