my wife has just received a letter from lowells about a debt she has never had it looks like a county court letter but i am unsure. the debt it for money owed to Gratton and freeman catalogues which we havent used since the early nineties. one of the letters we have recieved states its from 2015 which is ridiculous as the last time we used the catalogues was in 1992ish we have this month received numerous letters from lowell about this all demanding payment for money we do not owe (as far as we know) HELP!
IS THERE WAYTO FIND OUT WHAT, IF ANYTHING THIS DEBT IS FOR AND WHEN?

Hi.
Lowell buy up really old debts that are often very close to being statute barred. What you need to do is send them a 'prove it' letter; https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2607247/letter-when-you-know-nothing-about-about-the-debt-aka-prove-it-letter They should reply with some information about the debt. Don't sign it though, and remember it's down to them to prove that you owe the debt, it's not down to you to prove that you don't.0 -
What have you actually received? You say it's from Lowells, then 'it looks like a county court letter'.
Is it on Lowells headed paper? What does it actually say? Obviously don't quote specific balances or references or your name/address.
You say 'one of the letters'. If you have received more than one treat the above questions for each letter.0 -
As per Fatbelly post above, can you be more specific about what you have actually been sent.
