Hard Contact Lenses

Hmm I am more than happy to fit RGP lenses. I don't do that many these days as most people don't want the inital fitting hassle.
I would certainly keep an old RGP wearer in RGP lenses as you say due to the better Visual Acuity and lower infection rate.
Its probably more to do with getting an optician who is comfortable fitting RGP lenses and the upfront cost of the lenses than profit margins.
We don't make much margin on any lenses. Some daily lenses can be bought retail cheaper than we can buy them trade!0 -
Do you work for a certain well known chain/franchise? Perhaps they have a cheaper source of disposables?
The one I dealt with was comfortable with fitting RGP. In fact he was very good indeed, he spent ages teaching me how to get them out, then watching me do it 3 or 4 times. So I am very pleased with the service, but as I say, I really did have to argue forcefully to have RGP, and maybe if I had not previously worn hard contacts I might not have had the confidence to stand my ground.
Not sure what you mean by fitting hassle, unless you mean getting used to them, as they were uncomfortable the first few times I wore them. Last night on the ice rink they were very good indeed.0 -
Hello to all the people who responded to this Post of mine and I am sorry not to have acknowledged you all before now. Personal issues and difficulty navigating the MSE website. I did not get any notification in my email that I had any replies either - does that happen anyway? Thanks for the price of multi-focal GP lenses - how long ago was that price? Solutions are not too bad in price, mine are less than £5, at present, from Boots. Had some issues with the solutions a couple of years ago, but they seem OK now. My money-saving wish was with regard to new and replacement lens costs. How do people find the multi-focal GP lenses? I now need reading glasses in addition to my contact lenses. I also have a pair of prescription specs that I sometimes use and I chose bi-focal rather than vari-focal. A work colleague said that you looked centrally for distance and the lens gradually 'fades' outwards for reading - how true is this? I would hate the thought that I could only see clearly when looking straight ahead. I do not find bi-focal prescription specs especially good either, the 'reading' portion at the bottom varies throughout in clarity and I have to lift my head up in order to use it. I have toyed with the idea of buying two pairs of prescription specs - one for distance and one for reading/close work. I think GP contact lenses are also cheaper over time than spectacles and the cost of replacing specs if they break or get lost. I too am very short-sighted.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Not automatically. Always assume you'll get an answer, MSEr's are usually helpful. To get notifications, click on thread tools and then click on subscribe to thread, you can choose the frequency of notifications as well.0 -
I wear hard lenses as my vision can't be corrected with glasses. I would much prefer to wear glasses if I could.
Fortunately I get the lenses from the HNS for £60 each, rather than cost price and that's maybe 2-3 a year. I do have to buy my own solutions though. Usually on Amazon as nowhere in my town stocks them any longer. Used to be Boots had the cleaner, Superdrug had the wetting solution and local indpendent had preservative free saline, so it was a bit of trek round town anyway! They are expensive I agree but what's really expensive I find is the eye drops that I've been told to use. £12 a bottle.0
