Finding 'FAME...'

Hi guys!:A
I need some wonderfully kind soul to help me - please? I'm having a problem playing a DVD.
This DVD is a one-off, recorded by the theatre group of 'FAME ~ THE MUSICAL!'
DS is in it, in his first lead role. It was recorded in November 2005 & I just got my copy yesterday! I'm trying to play it for my mum (terminally ill), who never got to see her grandson in the show.
I'm running Vista Home Basic. I tried it on PowerCinema and it played, had volume and was going fine. I was even going to try the screen shot for the first time but never got to. Suddenly it just froze.
And then the screen went white, said it wasn't responding, I clicked wait for program to respond...very slow reaction & the resume screen came up... & it didn't.
So turning to good old Windows Media Player, in it went. There I sat expectantly, with my pink legwarmers on...:D
Perfect picture!:j
No sound!:o
Why no sound?
And eventually it froze then too, at a different part than earlier.
Again the 'not responding message'.
I clicked error details and it said AppHangB1, if that means anything to anyone.
PC is quite sluggish & freezing at times atm. No alerts going off re viruses etc. Did a disk cleanup earlier.
I'm technically-challenged (so idiot instructions please), and panicking that I can't get this DVD to play.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be so very grateful ... you don't want to know what a 42 year old looks like with pink legwarmers on!
Much Love,

Download VLC Player (free). That has all codec's required to play all video formats
IF that doesn't work it could be something deeper, but I expect it will.

Hi guys,
Is there any particular site you'd recommend that I should download the VLC Player from?
Also, is there a way to take screenshots from a DVD as DS is studying performing arts at college and needs to add some to create his portfolio?
Sorry to pester you guys - I can only just about manage lightbulbs!;) Many thanks.

Hi
VLC is made by Videolan.
This is the official Videolan website to get VLC media player from.
Here:- http://www.videolan.org/Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
As an alternative from the same site
http://www.filehippo.com/software/multimedia/
Scroll down to find Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1, I know this has a facility to take screenshots,( File/ save image as)Move along, nothing to see.0 -

HI guys,
I've downloaded the latest vlc and gone to it on desktop and the player is really small even when I have it on max? Does this sound right or have I missed something?
Wouldn't be the 1st time!

Hi
I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
But here are instructions how to start off:-
First put the DVD disc into the drive.
Then start VLC. It will be small at first, approx 1 inch tall and 3 inches across.
Then click File > Open Disc...
Then select the Disc tab.
Then click either the DVD(menus) or DVD button.
Then click OK.
If everything's ok the DVD will start to play.
Then you can right-click on the picture and have various options. Such as Fullscreen, Pause, Snapshot etc.
See how you get on.:cool:Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
