  • Ah yes, providing it is a salary sacrifice scheme then it will. Since it technically reduces your gross salary. If it isn't salary sacrifice then your student loan will be unaffected.

The SLC website does allow you to enter any payments you've made since the last calculation for an up to date balance.

If you are close to £0, ask to switch to a direct debit asap as getting SLC/HMRC/HR to stop payments can be difficult in my experience. Despite your best efforts there's a good chance you will overpay.

Yes you want to try to get your website login sorted.

Once you're within 2 years of paying off your SL, you'll receive an email warning you as such and asking you to ring them to set up a direct debit. Once the DD is set up you'll pay X amount for Y months straight from your bank account (rather than payslip) and it will stop automatically.

If you are within 4 months of repaying in full you can't do this, and you'll probably overpay in your final month and need to claim it back.

Even if you can't get your login sorted and you suspect you're within 2 years of paying it, ring them up anyway to check (with your contributions since the end of the previous tax year to hand).
