Haha yep, welcome to modern diesels, Curretly have a few cars im working on for friends and family

Golf needs a new turbo and actuator

skoda fabia timing chain has stretched causing a misfire, needs replacing

ahh its fun and games hence alot of people migrating back to simple petrol cars :rotfl:

I always think of petrol cars being more expensive on fuel.

    I'm probably wrong though!

    Yes and No

Petrols are not as economical as diesel in terms of mpg you get more mpg from a diesel than a petrol for sure, BUT and here is the but diesels parts cost more and need more maintenance and there are more things to go wrong on a diesel such as the list above so all the savings that you make from fuel you then have to spend that on repairs so its sort of counter productive

dont get me wrong im not anti diesel at all i have one

diesels really come it to their own when you are doing long journys mainly on the motorway thats when they are at thier most efficent but most people drive aound town in a diesel thats when they are the most inefficient

the general consensus is that if yo do more than 10,000-12,000 miles a year then buy a diesel if not then buy a petrol

Before I bought my astra i have a skoda fabia petrol that gave me 60 Miles to £10 fuel my astra with its contast dpf regen and egr blocking up etc... is doing 73 to £10 so only a diffrence of 13 miles more is it worth it well not really no from an mse point of view but as i can work on my own car and have trade discounts its only works out a tad more in the long run for me

I gave up my car years ago. So no car repairs expense here. I would estimate I save a good £700 a year not having to pay tax, insurance, servicing, tyres etc.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Yep, a few colleagues of mine have got rid of their cars also and have taken up cycling to work, which they seem to enjoy, you get to keep fit which is a bonus on top of saving money

unfortunately for me giving up my car is not an option as i use it a lot did 20,000 miles last year, i get to claim some fuel money back which helps out a little

Husbands bmw went in to be fixed today. Was hoping it would just be a new battery but it wasn't the battery at all, it needed a new crank shaft pully and drive belt.

    £310 lighter today :(

But out of interest I phoned the local bmw dealer and they would have charged £580 so don't feel as bad as I did

Yes - I've heard of the roof issues - hope it doesn't happened to mine. Nice, my cousin had an R32 Golf. Great until the DSG box goes then you better have deep deep pockets.

i have had lots of bmw's in the past they are the best cars out imho but when they go wrong they not cheap to fix

keep putting money away every month that way when the bills come in you dont feel it as much :money:
