I am a type2 diabetic, I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I control it by diet as I do not want any medication. I have found during my shopping trips that no supermarket has a dedicated area for sugar free or diabetic food. There are areas for Polish or Asian goods but nothing for us. I have spoken to Morrisons head office about this who said they will look into this but I am not holding my breath, I also emailed the Daily express with no response. I think it is going to be people power that changes things, they are ignoring millions of us.

I have never really thought about it but think its a good idea.

Many people might like this, you wouldn't have to be diabetic to use it.

Much the same way as lots eat a gluten free diet (they have their own sections) but not all of those are necessarily coelias

I would like to add that since being sugar free I have lost 11lbs in a year without dieting.

Really there is no call for it you will find a few products in the free from section , as a diabetic really you need a diet as unprocessed as possible when you remove the sugar from something you have to replace that with something else usually that's fat, so as much as that wont effect your glucose levels it creates that vicious weight gain circle that effects diabetes.

as I have said in previous post I have lost 11lbs so it really is a matter of reading labels regarding sugar and fat content but this is very time consuming until you learn what is good versus bad.

Then you already know other than jelly, fizzy drinks and a couple of tin goods like baked beans and tomatoes there would be nothing to fill a shelf. as your low sugar are vegetables meat, fish and wholegrains like rice and oats.

There doesn’t need to be a separate section for diabetic foods because suitable foods are all over the shop!
Think fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat poultry fresh fish and some grains and pulses.
Best to steer clear of anything labelled “diabetic” as it will have additional ingredients such as artificial sweeteners and as already mentioned, additional fats, even unhealthy transfats,
Unprocessed foods cooked at home are ideal....bakery, snack and confectionery items should be avoided.
Low carb, low fat foods are good for everyone, diabetics included.

The best thing you can do is avoid processed foods, watch your carbohydrate intake and get moving. All 3 will help to manage your blood sugar. The Diabetes UK website is a useful starting point.

There is no medal to be had for not taking medication to control your blood sugar. All it means is that complications will set in faster. This may sound tough but sparing the nation from the truth is something that has in part created this diabesity epidemic.

I am also type 2. After a few years of struggling with diabetes and weight I started following a low carb high fat diet. Results, I lost 4 stone, my glucose levels dropped to normal, my diabetes meds were cut right down. My GP said he didn't know what I was doing but keep on doing it

Just be aware, high fat doesn't wok for everyone. Much depends on your genes and family history.

I found out that it's better to eat hard veg instead of fat, the hard way. Not the same thing at all in terms of taste.
