Good Morning all
I am at a loss with my debt and need some advise. I have today looked at my credit score which is really bad, i needed to do this for security clearance. I have just seen that there is a CCJ recorded on there for nearly £5000 which i have not even been informed of. I also have a debts outstanding with others like Barclays. I went into Barclays and stated i needed all information regards the accounts that i owe money to and they have never supplied it. This all came about as a result of a marriage breakup some 6 years ago. I have been looking after my daughter since then with no financial help from her mother. My daughters mother was the person that accrued the debt but in my name. The reason i ask these questions is it is very confusing who can help me resolve all this ...what i mean by that is that it seems if i want to take out a DMP with someone like stepchange they want ALL the spare cash i have and to stop having a life in the interim for 6 years. Other DMP's want money on a monthly basis that could be paying off the debt. I can't take out an IVA as this would limit my security clearance seems like i am stuck between a rock and a hard place just for being a good dad. Any help appreciated

No one sees your credit score, it's a made up number. What matters is your credit history.
CCJ's are sent to the last known address, it's your job to inform the creditor if you move, which is probably what happened?
Your ex may well have accrued the debt, but if the loan or credit was in your name, then it's your debt, not hers.
It's no good going to stepchange or anyone else until you know exactly what you owe: then you can do something about it. Suggest you put your request/complaint in writing to Barclays, then they have to respond. But they won't be able to help you with 'others like Barclays'. Do you not know what credit or loans you took out?
When you know what you owe, post your SOA and then knowlegeable people on here can give you more advice. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
sorry what does SOA mean?0

SOA is a Statement of Affairs

Once you fill in the details, there is a bit at the bottom so you can format results for discussion boards, just click the MSE one so it shows on here clearly,

Hi,
Fill in the SOA, we will then know a little more about how to help you.
Do not be writing to anyone just yet, you do not want to inadvertently admit liability by mistake.
You mention these debts are from a period 6 years or more ago, can you provide more detail on that, a list of your debts, and the last time they were paid would be great.
Are you aware of the Limitations act 1980 ?, do you know what statute barred means ?
Some of this debt may be statute barred, and you may not need to pay it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi there
You mention you have requested a copy of your credit file, and that is one of the best ways to find out what debts you have. There are 3 credit reference agencies, and they can hold different information on you, so it's worth requesting a copy of your credit file from all of them.
As mentioned above court papers are usually sent to your last known address, and that's how you can end up with a CCJ without knowing about it. Contact the court that issued the CCJ (you'll find this information on your credit file) and ask them for the particulars of the claim. That will help you decide how to deal with it.
Completing a SOA is really important to work out your best option to deal with the debts. Although creditors will expect you to offer your spare money towards your debts (whether you self negotiate or enter into a DMP), you can budget a reasonable amount towards things like hobbies, leisure and gifts, as well as your usual household outgoings. Make sure you always go for a free DMP because you don't want to be paying a company fees that could be used to pay off your debt quicker.
Good luck with it all
