Joint to single mortgage

My Wife and I had a joint mortgage for the past 10 years. Sadly she passed away earlier this year and am now needing to switch to a single version.
Someone mentioned that due to my circumstances I can now apply for a first timer type again? Surely this can't be right?
As there is only me I am hoping (like everyone!) to get the best deal. I am not in a contract so am free to move provider.
Thanks

Sorry to hear of your loss.
I assume you own a property at present? If so, you wouldn't be classed as a first time buyer on any level. However, that wouldn't stop you from remortgaging to another lender....I am a Mortgage Broker.

Have you informed your lender of the situation?0
