This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone
I had a really good time yesterday evening at the drinks party one of the neighbours held. I met the new couple from opposite for the first time and they seem really nice. It makes a change not to have all of the arguments and throwing things out of the upstairs windows that we had with the previous occupants.
Today I want to get out somewhere for a while I’m not sure where to go yet though, I’m still thinking about that, and what sort of thing I want to do. I may go and have a wander around a local market town if the trains are running ok.
I’m going to put a chicken breast in the slow cooker with some sad looking veg that needs using up with some herbs and will have that for dinner with some new potatoes. There is some ice cream in the freezer if I fancy something for dessert.
Camelot I was pleased to readthat your DD got the keys to her house
Redruby I hope that your daughter’s move went well.
Gers good news on the broadband, it will make so much difference to what you can do now.
Thinking of the TAs, and I hope that Mr TA enjoyed his pie TA.
Csarina it’s good to hear that the care package is working out well and that your OH is settling back at home ok.
JackieO I’m pleased that you are enjoying your holiday.
Thinking of all of you who are having difficult times right now xx
Have as good a day as possible everyone.0 -
Morning Holly and all to follow,
DD has moved in the house is beautiful and she has got it looking really nice, I purposely stayed away yesterday to give them time to settle in and to get things how they wanted them without interference only to find out that his mum and dad arrived and stayed all day
I am working today so cant go round but dd and I are off Wednesday so I can go then and help her of she needs it.
As I said work today
but after that two weeks off :jits a bit of a shame as the new caf! opens tomorrow and so the existing caf! becomes mine to run and I wont be there, but my friend is there and will run it till I get back but on a limited menu etc. and then we will go for it full pelt when I get back.
Its very quiet at home and I miss my dd like mad, I think you must go through a period of adjustment when your kids leave home, I feel kind of bereft
please tell me that this is normal and will pass ???
TA thinking of you both as always and sending love xx
Have good days al xx0 -
Morning all.
Thanks for starting us off HH. The drinks party sounds lovely, I hope that friendships blossom from it.
RR - empty nest! It passes. Enjoy that you raised and set forth a happy and confident young person into their own life. Congratulations. Your DD will, no doubt, gravitate back when needed.
Camelot - I hope your DD’s new life in her new home is going well too.
TA - as always, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Yesterday I treated myself to a tea and (luscious) bacon roll in a cafe and sat at a table next to one with two friends chatting away. Well, one did! Non-stop for, I kid you not, ten minutes...dancing, work, handbags, clubs, pubs, wallpaper - ceaseless inane chat. Once she ran out of steam she said to her friend ‘enough about me and my life, now it’s your turn’. No sooner had the second woman said something about reserving a new build home then the first one interrupted her to have another long monologue about her new build last year. :rotfl: Such thoughtlessness and narcissism made me laugh and then be sad. They parted ways without the second woman having a chance.
DM is getting herself active again. Slowly, with lots of rests. She gathered up her necessities from her bedroom (newspaper, pen etc) put them into an old handbag to take everything down the long hall to the living room.
Being in my own home is fab. I’m still enjoying lying in my bed this morning. No plans, nowhere to be, nothing to do. :j
Happy Sunday to all.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dull, cloudy and overcast again this morning, but not cold, but quite breezy.
DH and myself enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I've now showered, dressed and just finished my brekkie, he's watching tv. Both boys are still in their pits.
Dinner last night was a salad that consisted of, ham, scotch egg, pork pie, hot quiche, hot chicken wings, mixed garden salad, radishes, silverskin pickled onions, pickled red cabbage, hot new potatoes and pasta salad - that's what the menfolk had. Mine was similar but missing the scotch egg (I had boiled egg instead), hot quiche, pork pie, red cabbage and pasta salad, I had a fat free dressing. I still had quite a plateful and was full after I'd eaten. We'll see how today goes as we're going to visit my parents who are away camping but not too far away from where we live.
I did get the ironing done and another job that has been nagging at me and it turned into a bit of a saga trying to get the technology to work and I had to go out and get new supplies and then do some maintenance on the printer but eventually we have got there and I'm pleased with the results.
Back to work tomorrow but a short week the following week due to the Bank holiday but I'm working next Saturday morning, then we have an invite to some friends in the afternoon - so looking forward to that.
Keep safe and well x

Morning

What a miserable "summers" day. Throwing it down and and windy here. Hoping it at least dries up later.
Lots to do in the house today due to a lazy Saturday...would say it was worth it but thats probably not true. Made my pizza so that will be dinner today too.
Lazy Saturday also involved me booking a holiday with a mate over New Year :T We are heading off to Morocco for a week to avoid new year which I seriously loath. Never been to Morocco before so excited about seeing a new country and escaping this one. Any one ever been?
Lazy Saturday then found me scooting through the George sale and finding a little skirt for holiday daytime for £4 and a dress for £6.
So in summary Lazy Saturday was one expensive dude of a day :rotfl: Nice no spend day in order today I feel.
Right off to make a start on Headless Chicken Sunday
Enjoy your day and hugs to TA
Ruby sounds like a serious case of empty nest syndrome which can be assisted but not cured with a bottle of wine

redruby!!!8230;. I'm feeling just the same. The house was so quiet last night...just me and the cats....I really missed DDs chat. She really left home 4 years ago to go to uni, but this time it feels like she's left home properly. Had lots of messages from her though...she's met her new flatmates who seem nice and got her room quite organised already. Its a big step for her...yesterday she woke up in our house next to fields, this morning she's living in London!
Its quite miserable here this morning....foggy and raining. I had hoped to do some gardening this afternoon but that will have to wait till later in the week.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need.
Overcast here today so I still can't do the washing.
There was live music on at the nearby pub last night so we went over to listen to it, some bands were better than others. The Hippy boat is also trading there, I may go and have a look later. I'd like a flower garland for my hat as I lost my last one in a strong wind.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
I cancelled the CA this morning, we usually lie in on Sunday, so we managed. OH had a strip wash of the necessary bits, sitting in his chair at the wash basin, teeth etc cleaned, I then helped him to dress, I sat on the bed, he sat propped against the pillows and put his feet on my knees so I could get his socks and slippers on. A bit of a struggle but we managed. Not sure I could do it everyday, but occasionally will be ok. I have ordered a sponge on a stick in the hope that he will be able to sit in his chair and use it to wash his back, legs and feet in the shower. My shoulders have come out in sympathy with my back, muscles are very tight.
I did manage to do the bit of ironing, pillowcases, sheet and quilt cover, so thats out of the way.
I am looking at maybe changing the bedroom round, need to do a bit of measuring, will have to get SIL and GGSIL to come over and move the big wardrobe. I wish I could get rid of it, but we have no where to put the stuff thats in it.
Roast lamb for supper tonight, new spuds, I picked enough beans for supper from the wigwam that has fallen over, will do some cauliflower and carrot to go with it. Rasps in jelly to finish up.
I am hoping to order the new fridge freezer tomorrow for delivery on Friday, that will give me a chance to empty all the stuff in the freezer part. Whats left and the contents of the fridge will go in the cool box.0 -
Morning campers, Hi- di -Hi !
I thought I would have a catch up this morning although I am multitasking
. Drinking coffee, most importantly
, DW on, WM on, veggies prepped and are ready for the oven later. Poor man's steak pie for lunch today and Dad is bringing over some garden grown runner beans, that his neighbour has given him
Well the roof is on the shed after a fashion, we worked until almost 9pm last night and spent the last half hour looking for some special screws to finish the roof . Mr Fix It has found them this morning, but I can't possibly do anything to the shed today, as I am aching all over, even the bottoms of my feet ! Gosh it has been a workout if nothing else, I hope I've lost a few pounds too ( we certainly have money wise :rotfl:.) We also missed a BBQ at DD's last night too
:(.
Righty ho, I must plough on. I have to find my dining room table first and set it for lunch, as it's buried with drills/ chargers etc. Oh and the WM has just finished so I shall put the first load out too, only one more to go as we have been living in work clothes and PJ's mainly this week .
Hope everyone is having a reasonable day. Thinking of the poorlies and their carers, especially TA, Csarina and Gers, and the empty nesters dp1 and redruby.
Hugs all round
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
