Can someone please clarify the situation below?
Son travelled from Marylebone to Manchester Piccadilly.
He purchased a split ticket to save money.
His actual tickets were Marylebone to Wolverhampton, then Wolverhampton to Stafford. Stafford to Stoke on Trent. And SOT to Manchester Piccadilly.
Now his actual journey was Marylebone to Leamington spa. Then Leamington spa to Birmingham New street. Then Birmingham to Manchester, stopping at various stops but including Stafford and Stoke on Trent.
His train from Birmingham to Manchester was over half hour late.
I know I can claim on his Stoke to Manchester ticket. But can I claim on the others too?
As all the tickets are used on the Birmingham to Manchester train which was late?
Any thoughts appreciated as I've nee done this before!!

If the train was sufficiently late at Wolverhampton, Stafford & Stoke, then yes.0

Whether or not compensation is payable depends on the time of arrival at the destination.
The National Rail Conditions of Travel state that one can use multiple tickets for one journey, and it is the journey that counts.
So, in this case, it is the arrival time at Manchester Piccadilly that is important. Lateness, or otherwise, at intermediate points is immaterial.
The amount of compensation due is based on the sum of the cost of all the tickets for the one journey.0 -
Yes the train was late at all stations.
It was late leaving Birmingham new street, and late all the way onwards.
Due. Arr
Birmingham New Street 16.31 - 17.00
Wolverhampton. 16.49 - 17.25
Stafford. 17.03 - 17.38
Stoke on Trent. 17.20 - 17.55
Manchester Piccadilly. 17.59 - 18.36
So I shall look into how to claim, as I've never done this before!!0 -
Ok stupid question alert....... do I claim from the company he brought the tickets from OR the company who ran the delayed train? Or doesn't it matter?
He brought the tickets from Virgin but was a Crosscountry train that was delayed.0 -
Claim from crosscountry. Their website for claiming is very straightforward.0
