Euro tunnel wine shopping. Is it still worth the trip?

For years I've said to the family we should go to France on what used to be called a booze cruise, Never got round to it.

What I'd like to know is, is it still worth it?
I want to buy wine. Also, I want to use the tunnel cos my daughter is scared of ferry seasickness.

I intend to spend up to £500. Can I get free travel from the big wine shops?

I just have a family MPV car, not a van.

Any advice gratefully received.

Lisa

Ive heard its not as good as it once was, one of the reasons is the euro against the pound. If you want to go then go but dont have hopes of getting a bargain.

It also depends how far you live from the Tunnel ?

Not sure about the free travel though.

When you say wine shops can you elaborate ?

Theres 2 Majestics in Calais and some independant stores or you go to the supermarkets. 1 Majestic shop is near 3 hotels which has an Auchan nearby, the other 1 is near an Aldi, 2 local wine shops.

How long would you go for ?

For seeing if you are getting a good deal use a conversion app, maybe its something your child could do.

Have you driven in Europe before ? Theres a thread on here about driving in Europe and a list of tips somewhere.

we have used calais wine superstore before and had there free travel on both ferry and tunnel.
Not so many bargains as before but still cheaper than UK .

    from their site

Book one of our Free Travel Offers

If you spend a minimum of £250 on wine, beer & champagne at the Calais WIne Superstore, we will pay for you to get to France. Simply choose the right Free travel offer for you.
Don't worry if you don't want to spend this much! You can still order online and arrange your own travel. You can book tickets directly with both P&O and eurotunnel and their prices won't break the bank.
  • You need to be careful about bulk buying if you live within easy reach of Eurotunnel/ferries as HMRC is likely to assume that you could be buying to sell on. IMO it's only worth it now if you're buying a smallish amount of very good European wine. New World plonk is everywhere including bigger b&m and you can buy 6 bottles of Bronze medal winning organic Spanish wine from Aldi for 29.94 with free delivery.
