Hi everyone. I need a little advice.
I have been married three years together four, and my husband's bank account is in his name but also in the name of an ex from 20 years ago. the mortgage is in both names too, which I don't understand as he hasn't had contact since they broke up but he moved 10 years ago- she is still on the mortgage.
he won't sort this out. I mentioned it again tonight, as I found out he hasnt done anything. I first found out three years ago and asked him to sort it out. I haven't brought it up since I just thought he would sort it.
We both pay into his bank account but if anything should happen to him where do I stand? we have 12k of savings and 10 years left on the mortgage. would she get half? all of it? where do I stand? I don't want to end up in a mess.
thanks in advance.
Lisa

Whether the ex's name is on the mortgage isn't an issue. The real question is whose name is down on the title for the property.
It is quite common in divorce for a couple to agree that person A gets the house. If there is a mortgage on the house in both their names, then the lender has to agree to release person B i.e. remortgage in person A's name only.
The lender can say no. And person A frequently doesn't care. Only person B has the problem, since they remain liable,
But the joint current account should be changes pronto. Ex would get it all in the event.0 -
